Workholding Technology for Optics and Photonics Machining
Blue Photon’s grip technology solves workholding struggles by eliminating scrap and time caused by other forms of workholding, ensuring that the surface integrity of the glass is not affected. The workpiece is secured to the grippers with BlueGrip™ workholding adhesive, which is cured with ultraviolet (UV) light transmitted through the core of the gripper.
The BlueGrip workholding adhesive allows optics and photonics manufacturers to:
- Achieve adhesive curing through light transmitting components
- Hold fragile, delicate and complex technical glass
- Eliminate wax, resin, and mechanical clamp operations
- Reduce set-up time to nearly half the time
The benefits of our patented UV workholding technology include simplifying workholding needs to create better parts while reducing scrap and lowering manufacturing costs by using a UV curable BlueGrip workholding adhesive system for machining.
"I use your product regularly to adhere pieces of glass directly to a piece of aluminum. I machine it in a fraction of the time it take traditionally."

Application Example
A glass company needed to find a way to machine industrial glass lenses more efficiently. Optics can be difficult to hold due to the brittle nature of glass. The process of wax, resin, and mechanical clamps have many set-up operations, making the whole machining process to hold glass very time consuming. The solution was to use BlueGrip workholding adhesive to solve their workholding struggles by eliminiating scrap and time caused by other forms of workholding, ensuring that the surface integrity of the glass was not affected. By implementing the Blue Photon system, the manufacturer was also able to cut set-up time to nearly half the time. Output was increased due to the reduced number of operations. Overall quality improvements were seen using BlueGrip workholding adhesive.
